Ah, love

I stalk a lot of design blogs/websites to get ideas for apartment space and just general life inspiration. I've seen the below poster in a couple different apartments and get butterflies every time. I'm not in love with anyone or anything, but a little of that giddy feeling still comes over me when I read those words. It's a precious poster and I love how simple, straightforward, and boyish looking it is.

rain all day and i don't mind.

my life was like a jack johnson song this weekend. Thanks to torrential downpours all of Sunday, most of L.A. was trapped indoors. an unusual occurance. Luckily, I had planned a few baking projects, that allowed me to stay indoors most of the day.

Samoas are my favorite girl scout cookie; introduced after my brief stint as a girl scout in second grade. I found this recipe online and decided I had to try it. It was right on the bridge between candy-making and cookie-making; meaning it was quite a challenge. However, they turned out pretty well so it was worth it!

SX Envy

Currently I have some SXSW envy going on. Every morning this week I've been checking out KCRW, Pitchfork, & COS to see what bands are making big impressions or disappointing crowds.

I was fortunate enough though to catch a band from The Netherlands, The Black Atlantic, on their way to SXSW Tuesday night at The Hotel Cafe. The group harmonies, elegant piano, and thoughtful lyrics made for a beautiful show. I got to talk to the group frontman, Geert van der Velde, after the show about the band's next album, which will be a little more drum focused than their debut, "Reverence For Fallen Trees". He was such a nice guy and had nothing but complimentary things to say about the rest of his bandmates and their experience thus far in the U.S
The Black Atlantic

Check out an acoustic version of "Fragile Meadow" and also head to their website HERE to download their debut album for FREE. Come on, who doesn't like free, good music!?

gift club

one of my favorite things in the world is giving presents. truthfully, i think gifts are super important and there really aren't enough opportunities for gift giving. as a result of this, my older sister and i founded a gift club several years ago. i've had several since then and in order to start your own, it's best to set ground rules beforehand.

the rules of gift club:
1. you do not talk about gift club (just kidding)
2. set a time limit, mine are usually one gift per month, alternating recipient.
3. set a price limit, the point isn't to spend gobs of money but to show your friend, family member or significant other that you think they're snazzy. mine is usually $10

my best friend, megan, and i have had one going on for the last year or so and this month sent me one of my favorites ever: a travel guide to tokyo from luxe city guides. i'm going to have trouble next month topping this one.

i think everyone should start their own gift club!! happy present giving!

Friday Jam

I've been listening to Walk The Moon "Anna Sun" all week. My roommate probably wants to throw my speakers out the window.... sorry.

I will eventually tire of this tune, but this week, it's all I've wanted to hear. The song just puts me in a happy mood and causes me to dance around my room (yeah... I'll admit it). Plus, these guys are from Ohio. I like supporting the Midwest!

Have a listen to "Anna Sun" below & check the band out here HERE... or buy the song on iTunes -->

Back on the circuit.

I'm starting to hit the concert circuit, FINALLY, after getting my life in order here. Last week I went to my first "It's a School Night"  concert series at Bardot and watched Isaac RussellFamily Of The Year, and Eulogies rock it out. I also saw The Daylights and Civil Twilight at The Troubador.

This weeks School Night trumped the last line up. Starting off with a band from Scotland, Broken Records and finishing strong with a band out of D.C., U.S. Royalty. Johnossi, rockers from Stockholm,  played a set in between, and although they were a little too "loud & noisy" for me, I can understand why people appreciate them, I was coming around to their hard rock by the last song. Broken Records wow'ed me with their lovely lyrics and the lead singer's Mumford sounding voice and U.S. Royalty seemed like rock veterans who'd been performing in giant amphitheaters for years, the lead singer definitely had old school rocker written all over him.
